Claudio Monteverdi short biography

One of the greatest musicians in the history of music, Claudio Monteverdi was the first of the Ars Nova composers. Monteverdi’s greatest musical input was in the opera. Monteverdi was the first composer who specified precisely which instruments were to be used in his compositions.  Monteverdi created and used the virtuosic aria, a technically challenging vocal composition to display the musical and virtuoso abilities of a singer.
